Airport celebrates 40 years with Delta Air Lines

The Daytona Beach International Airport will celebrate Delta Air Lines’ 40th anniversary of service with a cake cutting and opportunity to win airline tickets from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

Delta Air Lines began air service on Sept. 8, 1979, with one daily, roundtrip flight between Daytona Beach and Atlanta.

When the service launched, Russ Gariota, Delta’s Daytona Beach district marketing manager at the time, said: “These flights have been scheduled to connect at Atlanta with major complexes opening Delta’s entire nationwide route system to Daytona Beach area travelers. Of equal, or more importance to local business interests, this new service makes Daytona Beach available as a resort destination to a wide cross-section of U.S. travelers.”

During the celebration, the public may enter to win a roundtrip for two on Delta Air Lines, complete with up to seven days of free parking at DAB. Two prize packages will be awarded. A table will be set up across from Delta’s ticket counter, and the winner will be drawn at 2:30 p.m. Winners must be present to win.

The airport will also host a private luncheon. Media opportunities are available. For more information, email ksark@volusia.org
