Airtran Airways to launch weekend nonstop service to Baltimore/ Washington airport beginning Feb 9.

AirTran Airways has announced new nonstop Saturday and Sunday jet service between Daytona Beach International Airport and Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport beginning Feb. 9.

The new nonstop service will be offered on a seasonal basis for the winter and spring seasons with no ending date established at this time. The Saturday and Sunday flights will depart Baltimore/ Washington at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Daytona Beach at 3:32 p.m. The return flight will depart Daytona Beach at 4:15 p.m. and arrive at Baltimore/Washington Airport at 6:15 pm.

Nonstop Baltimore service was offered by AirTran Airways during the winter and spring this year and proved extremely popular, according to Airport Director Dennis McGee. “It’s going to be great to have nonstop weekend service to Baltimore,” he added.

McGee noted the Washington region always has been one of the best markets for DBIA. AirTran Airways plans to use its 117-passenger Boeing 717 aircraft to provide the new service. The Boeing 717 is configured for 117 seats – 105 coach and 12 business class seats.

Based in Atlanta and headquartered in Orlando, AirTran is a low-fare airline that serves more than 40 cities from Daytona Beach through the Atlanta hub. AirTran has the newest all-Boeing fleet of aircraft in America and offers free XM satellite radio, spacious overhead bins and assigned seating. AirTran Airways began service in Daytona Beach in Jan. 11.
