Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport decreased by
24 percent in July compared with July 2005.
During July, 44,850 passengers arrived and departed through Daytona
Beach International Airport, in comparison with 58,760 total passengers
in July 2005.
For the 12-month period ending in July, 564,177 passengers traveled
through the County- operated Airport, an 11 percent decrease over the
prior 12-month period.
Airport officials said July’s traffic decrease reflects a continued
trend of reduced seat inventory offered by the airport’s principal
carrier -- Delta Air Lines -- following the air carrier’s chapter 11
filing in November 2005. During July, Delta offered 34,644 available
seats. This compares to the 60,588 available seats in July, 2005, a 43
percent reduction. Reduced seat inventory in July pushed overall
passenger loads up from 84 percent in July 2005 to 90 percent this July.
Airport officials are continuing discussions with new and existing
airlines to expand air service options for the future.
