Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport declined 6
percent in April in comparison with the same month last year.
The county-operated airport recorded 55,805 incoming and outgoing
passengers during April. This compares to the 59,276 travelers recorded
in April 2005. For the 12-month period ending in April, the number of
incoming and outgoing passengers totaled 600,683, down 5 percent from
the previous 12 months.
Airport officials said the April traffic decline is the result of a
systemwide reduction in seats by the airport’s principal carrier Delta
Air Lines, as part of the carrier’s filing under Chapter 11 in late
2005. During April, Delta offered 15,892 fewer seats in Daytona Beach
compared with AprilMarch March 2005. The airport’s remaining two
carriers -- United Express and Continental Express -- experienced high
levels of passenger traffic during April. In contrast with Delta, the
seat inventory on Continental Express service to Newark/New York was up
51 percent and generated 66 percent more passengers than in April 2005.
Continental’s load factor was 94 percent in April. United Express, which
began service to Washington - Dulles International Airport in February,
achieved an 86 percent passenger load factor during April.
