Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport (DBIA)
increased 41 percent in February 2007 compared with February 2006.
During February, 64,696 passengers flew in and out of the
county-operated airport. This compares with the 45,909 travelers
recorded in February 2006. February’s traffic increase was a direct
result of new low-fare service offered by AirTran Airways which began
January 11, 2007. The airport’s other air carriers, United, Continental
and Delta also experienced strong passenger traffic during February.
Beginning with three daily round trip flights to Atlanta in January,
AirTran Airways increased their Daytona Beach service February 15 to
four daily roundtrip flights to Atlanta, plus a daily nonstop flight
Baltimore-Washington. AirTran Airways Atlanta service offers travelers
daily connections to more than 40 cities nationwide.
"We are pleased with the public’s response to AirTran Airways’ new
low-fare service," said Dennis McGee, DBIA’s Director of Aviation. "The
County is presently engaged in a major marketing campaign to better
inform the public of the availability of the new low-fare air service
option at Daytona Beach International Airport."
